The WHS Winter Guard is a 10 Time Indiana High School Color Guard Association State Finalist and a 2018 Winter Guard International Regional Finalist. The WHS Winter Guard is the indoor version of the color guard that performs with the marching band in the fall. Color Guard utilizes flag, fake rifles, sabres and dance to put together a themed show. In the winter however, the marching band is replaced by recorded music and we do a much more theatrical show built solely around the guard. The Winter Guard Season usually runs from November through the first week of April.
During the Winter Season, the Guard performs as two groups based on skill level. The WHS Winter Guard prides its self on being a NO CUT program. Meaning anyone who wishes to join can and will be placed in the group that best fits the individual skill of the students.
Group 1 is our Regional A Guard. This Guard competes in the IHSCGA and WGI in the Regional A-Class. For High School students there is no audition to be in this group! This group is designed with our beginning to intermediate skill level high school students as well as our intermediate to advanced middle school students in mind. This group will compete with the goal of qualifying for the State Finals and WGI Regional Finals in their class.
Group 2 is our A Guard. This Guard competes in the IHSCGA and WGI A-Class. An audition is required to be placed in this group. This group is designed with our intermediate to advanced skill level high school students as well as our advanced middle school students in mind. This group will compete with the goal of qualifying for the State Finals, WGI Regional Finals and WGI World Championships in their class.
