Bonjour, and welcome to my info page! My name is Kemmie Mitzell, the Westfield High School French Teacher for 2016-2017. This is my 8th year teaching French overall. Previously, I taught 4 years at the university level and 3 years at the high school level, both public and private. I teach all levels of French, and am proud to be able to offer and teach AP French Language and Culture at Westfield. I also sponsor French Club, am an active Assistant Coach for Speech and Debate, the Head Coach for French Quiz Bowl, and the proud founder of Star Wars Club.
I have been speaking French for 20+ years, so I consider it to be a part of my identity. I have lived in France four different times since 2002, and I have three degrees in French: a Bachelors of Language and Culture (IU Bloomington 2008), a Master of French Literature (IU Bloomington 2010) and a Master of French Translation (Kent State 2016). In addition to being a teacher, I am also a freelance translator specializing in the medical and pharmaceutical industries and the subtitling of French films and live performances.
Should you be interested classes and curricula, please see the attached syllabi to my page for every class I have taught/am teaching currently at WHS. You can find them in the lower-right hand corner of my page. They are (from top to bottom): French AP, French III, French I Honors, and French I. In addition, you can access my course Canvas pages, which include class resources, using the following link: https://wws.instructure.com/
You can access the Speech and Debate page here: http://www.rocksspeech.com/
. (There are no pages for French Club, French Quiz Bowl, or Star Wars Club - they are coming soon!.)*
Should you wish to make contact with me, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
. I look forward to hearing from you!

*Club Activities Summary for 2016-2017:
STAR WARS Club
Star Wars Club has had a ton of fun this year! We have discussed the movies "The Force Awakens" and fan theories for Episode 8 (Who is Snoke? Who are Rey's parents? Will Kylo Ren redeem himself? Will Luke survive Episode 8? Who are "The Last Jedi"? Who are the "Knights of Ren"?), Carrie Fisher's passing and how we think it will affect the future of the Saga, reviewed Rogue One, and even had a trivia competition with amazing prizes! The Force is strong with this Club. Master Yoda says you should come check it out! Next year, we have plans for film projections and post-vision discussions in partnership with our very own RockTV folks... details TBA! Stay tuned!
FRENCH QUIZ BOWL Club
We have 6 teams competing in the French Quiz Bowl this year, with a total of 20 students participating! Enthusiasm is high, with many Juniors and Seniors completing their third or fourth consecutive year of French Quiz Bowl competitions! We have students participating from French levels I-III. Each team is responsible for knowing pertinent vocab and grammar information, as well as culture trivia. During club meetings, we practice and cover administrative matters such as team status updates, t-shirt info, logistics for the trip, and other essentials. We will be traveling to Lafayette-Jefferson High School on April 27 to compete with other schools in the State! The kids also get treated to a free ice cream social, a fun French talent show, and an extensive awards ceremony. We plan to ROCK! Will you ROCK with us next year?!
This year, the Club is being run exclusively by student officers (sophomores through seniors) with my sponsorship. The student officers, entirely self-motivated and already determined to make a career out of French, have chosen to take it upon themselves to organize meetings, create cultural education powerpoints to share with members, and prepare genuine francophone foods for each meeting. We also cover administrative matters, such as taking attendance, keeping track of active members, recruiting, t-shirts, and sharing of French cultural events taking place in the Indianapolis area courtesy of my close connections with the Alliance Francaise of Indianapolis. Thanks to AFIndy, we will be doing our first-ever showing of a French film at school late this month (April) with other schools from our area in attendance, allowing our French students to mingle and share their love of French with each other. All things considered, French Club has been a HIT this year - we have had 25-35 people in attendance at each meeting so far, and all have walked away very happily with more French knowledge and appreciation, camaraderie, and food and drink in their bellies. Students often ask me when the next meeting will be. We plan to keep the momentum up this last trimester, and next year, too... venez nous rejoindre pour laisser les bons temps rouler avec d'autres francophiles!
