Hello! My name is Lani Johnston and I am one of the school counselors at WHS! I serve students in grades 9-12 whose last names begin with the letters S-Z. I also serve our ENL population and foreign exchange students. As a counselor, I wear many hats from academic planning, to college and career readiness, to helping students who are going through social or emotional issues. No two days are alike in the WHS Counseling Center!
I have been a counselor at WHS since 2012 and before that, I was a counselor at another area high school for six years. I am a graduate of Indiana University with Human Development and Family Studies as my major and Psychology and Sociology as my minors. I graduated from Butler University with my MS in School Counseling.
Some of my other counseling duties include: arranging college visits to WHS, our Shamrock College Rep Day held semi-annually, and helping to plan and organize our College Admission Bootcamp for rising seniors the summer after their junior year. For professional development, I sit on the planning committees for the Greater Indianapolis Northside College Fair and for the annual congress for the Indiana Association of College Admissions and Counseling (IACAC). I will serve as Program Chair for the 2017 Congress and General Chair during the 2017-'18 school year. I also sit on the Professional Development Committee for IACAC and we plan an annual summer institute for all counselors new to high school and college admissions. I have a love for visiting college campuses and try to incorporate visits into my own personal travel plans.
Outside of school, I love to bake, travel, do anything fitness related, and spend time with family and friends. I have been married since 2008 to my husband Jeff and we had our first son, Jack in February of 2015.
