Hello! Welcome to Mrs. Gibbs's English Page! I have been teaching at Westfield High School for my entire career, and there is no better place to work. The students, my colleagues, the administration, and the parents combine to make this school top notch! What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to work with young people, challenge them academically, and prepare them for their next stage of life and learning. Teaching, for me, is a calling, a chance to raise up the next generations to change the world.
What do I teach? First of all, I teach students, the most important part of my job. They are all uniquely different, and it is my goal to always know them, how they learn, and how I can best meet their needs as learners. In addition, I teach all 9th Grade English courses, including Honors English. Though I have taught 11th and 12th grade in my career, I love teaching freshmen, as it is an incredible opportunity to help them build a firm foundation of skills that will help them thrive throughout high school. Freshmen have an abundance of changes to endure: bigger school, finding classes, more homework, managing extra-curriculars, all while thinking more deeply and doing more complex work. Starting them off on the right foot is integral to my job, and I love it! (They also have great stories!)
Outside of the classroom, I am excited to sponsor Westifield's first ever Dance Marathon
!! It's going to be amazing! Please consider getting involved with this outstanding cause.
When I am not teaching, I LOVE being with my family. My husband, Jeff, is a teacher at Oak Trace, and our sons, Parker and Graham, attend there as well. We love to be outside together as a family and go hiking, bike riding, and work in our garden. We also enjoy attending any sporting event, whether it's the Westfield Rocks or the Indiana Hoosiers!
