My name is Roger Wachtel, and this year is my 33rd as a public school educator. It is my 13th year teaching at Westfield High School and my 28th year living in Westfield with my wife, Jeanette. My three sons, all of whom were educated in Westfield K-12, are now out on their own, and all work in education, or as writers. I previously taught and coached at Southport, Carmel, and Peru High Schools (where I was the writing specialist). In addition to that, I was as an ISTEP consultant for two years, and worked at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory at Temple University for one year, working in a school reform program that served a national network of diverse high schools.
I have taught English at all grades and levels at Westfield, including foundations and AP. I currently teach English 12, ACP Composition, and ACP Literary Interpretation. I am also the head boys cross country coach, and the head boys track coach.
I love teaching young people, both as a teacher and as a coach. I love my subject matter, and I really enjoy trying to spark some enthusiasm for literature, even in those who might not be predisposed to be enthusiastic about it!
