Hugs2Honduras Club

Welcome to our Club!

hugs2honduras began in 2013 as a way for Spanish students to connect with cultural elements the students had been studying. Mrs. Delp had traveled to Honduras as a medical translator while at DePauw Universtiy for Winter Term in Service, and more recently during the summer of 2012. She teaches her Spanish students about daily life in Honduras and how so many face daily economic struggles that we can hardly even imagine. Photos of people living in homes made of mud and sticks, mud floors, poorly ventilated fire/stoves, in addition to the sad state of schools in many parts of Honduras, really left an impression on students. Her students wrote letters to orphans in Honduras and the boys at Flor Azul, a boys farm. Students also collected school supplies and backpacks to send to the boys. Their desire to do MORE blossomed, and thus, the hugs2honduras club was "born".

We focus our meetings on getting to know one another, learning interesting information about Honduras, and finding fun ways to serve the educational needs of the children in rural areas surrounding Tegucigalpa. 100% of the funds raised go to fund school uniform purchases, build schools,or purchase special supplies, or fund a special project that will benefit students in Honduras.

Examples of our previous fundraisers include:
a Tshirt sale in the fall
bake sales at homecoming football and basketball games
$ collection/glow bracelet sales at our bi-annual Justo Lamas Group concert hosted by WHS.
locker clean out at the end of the year, and collected school supplies specifically

EVERYONE is welcome in our club and we do NOT speak Spanish only at our club meetings.
Please join us!
Dues are $5 and serve to help cover the costs associated with treats and fun activities for our meetings.
