Students from Westfield High School win a total of 33 Awards for their Artwork!

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s largest and most prestigious recognition program in the visual and literary arts. This year, students in Central and Southern Indiana submitted over 2,800 works of art. Students from Westfield High School won a total of thirty-three awards for their artwork.
Congratulations to the following Westfield High School students for their artistic achievement: Gwyneth Chavente (Honorable Mention), Olivia Jacobson (Gold Key), Kenna Janes (Silver Key and Honorable Mention), Hallie Kane (three Gold Keys), Christopher Lisle (Gold Key, two Silver Keys and Honorable Mention), Justin Mamaril (Honorable Mention), Taylor Paschal (Honorable Mention), Madison Sherrick (Gold Key and Honorable Mention), Anna Berndt (Gold Key), Olivia Harmeyer (Gold Key), Emily Krakora (Silver Key and Honorable Mention), Michaela Krawczyk (Honorable Mention), Allyson McAtamney (Honorable Mention), Zachary Raber (three Gold Keys, one Silver Key, and one Honorable Mention), Chloe Ruggles (one Gold Key and three Silver Keys), Cailyn Surtees (Gold Key), and Grace Weber (Gold Key and Silver Key).
Gold and Silver Key artwork will be on display at Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University starting Wednesday, February 1, through Sunday, February 26, 2017. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 2:00 pm. All Gold Key winners will have their artwork forwarded to New York City for a National show.

12 WHS Student Athletes Signed Commitment Letters

Yesterday was National Signing Day 2017 and 12 WHS Student Athletes Signed Commitment Letters to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Congratulations to these outstanding student-athletes and their families.

Two WHS Seniors awarded four-year full-tuition Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships

WHS would like to officially congratulate seniors, Laura Galles and Justin Mamaril! Each of these accomplished seniors has been awarded a four-year, full-tuition Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship!!

WHS is allowed to nominate two students for this prestigious scholarship and, for the FIRST TIME ever, BOTH of our nominated students have been awarded the scholarship!! In fact, in Hamilton County, ONLY a total of four students are awarded this scholarship!

Thirty-five students were interviewed in Hamilton County and finalists’ names were submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. for final scholarship selections. Scholarship guidelines stipulate that recipients must: be residents of Hamilton or Marion County; plan to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study beginning in the fall of 2017 at a public or private college or university in Indiana; demonstrate an un-weighted GPA of at least 2.5 (3.0 for students in Hamilton County); demonstrate financial need; demonstrate leadership or initiative in their school or community; and promise to, upon graduation, give back to the community.

Senior Sami Fassnacht and junior, Mia Stoffel earn NCWIT Awards

Congratulations to senior, Sami Fassnacht and junior, Mia Stoffel! The girls, along with AP Computer teacher, Karen Podell, attended the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Indiana Affiliate Award for Aspirations in Computing dinner and awards ceremony recently. The girls both were chosen as winners in Indiana and also received NATIONAL Honorable Mention! Sami also earned this award in 2016.

The dinner and awards ceremony was held for awardees, parents, and teachers at the One America Building. IU First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie was the Keynote speaker. And a special shout out to junior, Emma Clary. She also received a gift package for being a runner up!

Congratulations to all three young ladies and Mrs. Podell! They ROCK!!
